In vehicles of the above-mentioned brands, it has long been common practice for factory radios to supply power to the roof antenna via the antenna cable only. This means that no separate cable is used to supply power to the antenna's integrated amplifier. If you replace the factory radio with a retrofit unit, you will encounter the problem that radio reception will be significantly worse because the amplifier in the antenna is no longer supplied with power and does not work.
With these so-called phantom adapters, it is now possible to continue using the built-in amplifier of the antenna even with retrofitted devices. The antenna signal and power are recombined in the adapter and fed to the antenna, which now functions correctly as before. Connect the blue cable to an ignition-plus source; the automatic antenna connection of the car radio is best suited for this.
