This adapter is required for vehicles in which the factory radio only supplies power to the roof antenna via the antenna cable. This means that no separate cable is used to supply power to the antenna's integrated amplifier. If you replace the factory radio with a retrofit device, you will encounter the problem that radio reception will be significantly worse, as the amplifier in the antenna is no longer supplied with power and does not work.
With these so-called phantom adapters, it is now possible to continue using the built-in amplifier of the antenna even with retrofit devices. The antenna signal and power are recombined in the adapter and fed to the antenna, which now functions correctly as before. Connect the blue cable to a positive ignition source; the automatic antenna connection on the car radio is best suited for this.
