This adapter is required for vehicles in which the factory-installed radio supplies power to the roof antenna solely via the antenna cable. Therefore, no separate cable is used to power the antenna’s built-in amplifier. If you replace the factory radio with an aftermarket unit, you’ll face the problem that radio reception deteriorates significantly because the amplifier in the antenna is no longer receiving power and therefore doesn’t work.

With these so-called phantom adapters, it is now possible to continue using the antenna’s built-in amplifier even with aftermarket units. The antenna signal and power are recombined in the adapter and routed to the antenna, which now functions correctly as before. Connect the blue cable to a positive ignition source; the car radio’s automatic antenna connection is best suited for this.
